We’re joining in National Apprenticeship Week and celebrating the contribution of apprentices across the Coveris Group. Every day, we’re very happy to be introducing a different apprentice from our team who provides an insight into their role. Interested in exploring an apprenticeship? Meet our apprentices and see if an apprenticeship could be the rewarding career path for you!
Julia Brimo
Nearing the end of a three year commercial apprenticeship, Julia Brimo from Coveris Warburg in Germany discussed her opportunities as an apprentice. Good luck in the final part of your apprenticeship!
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
I decided to do an apprenticeship because I wanted to get to know the world of work. Before starting my apprenticeship, I completed a traineeship in retail and then applied for an apprenticeship because I enjoyed working in the commercial area work.
What do you enjoy about or in your role?
I enjoy my role at Coveris because as a trainee I have the opportunity to work in all departments and get to know the jobs better.
What is your favourite thing about working at Coveris?
Working at Coveris has given me the opportunity to be trained in an industry that I never thought about before. Thanks to Coveris, I was able to get an insight into the packaging industry and continue to be interested in it.
What is your proudest moment working at Coveris?
When I get recognition for the work I've done and when I'm given challenging tasks.
Noémi Schmid
Next in our #NAW2022 series, we inroduce Noémi Schmid from Coveris Pirtó, Hungary. Noémi has a broad role as a Finance Accountant with payroll and HR responsibilities, and alongside her daily tasks, is studying for a second degree at the Faculty of Law of the University of Szeged, majoring in HR.
Why did you choose to continue studying alongside work?
In the future I would like to work mainly in HR. During the training I have the opportunity to acquire knowledge in the field of HR, in addition to a deeper understanding of labour law.
A jövőben főként HR szakterületen szeretnék dolgozni. A képzés során lehetőségem nyílik a munkajogi szabályok mélyebb megismerése mellett, HR területen is ismereteket szerezni.
What do you enjoy about your role?
I had never worked in a multinational environment before Coveris. I really enjoy the challenges and being able to meet them. I get a lot of support from both local and group management.
Soha nem dolgoztam a Coveris előtt multinacionális környezetben. Nagyon élvezem a kihívásokat és hogy sikerül őket megvalósítanom. Nagyon sok támogatást kapok a helyi és a csoport managementjétől egyaránt.
What is your favourite thing about working at Coveris?
What I like best is to have lots of opportunities for continuous improvement and to be supported to do so. I believe in lifelong learning and that there is always room for improvement.
Azt szeretnem a legjobb, hogy sok lehetőségem van a folyamatos fejlődésre és ehhez támogatást is kapok. Hiszek az élethosszig tartó tanulásban és abban, hogy mindig van tér a fejlődésre.
What is your proudest moment working at Coveris?
When I first managed to lead a meeting alone in English.
Amikor először sikerült angol nyelven levezetni egy meetinget.
Sami El Alami
Meet Sami El Alami, Hygiene, Safety & Environment (HSE) Apprentice at our Firminy, Montfaucon and Campine sites in France. Sami spoke to us for National Apprenticeship Week and describes why an apprenticeship was right for him, and what he enjoys most about his role linked to health and safety, quality and the environment. Thanks for giving us an insight into life as an apprentice at Coveris, Sami!
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
For four years now, I have chosen the apprenticeship path because form me, it’s the best way to train by combining theoretical and practical training. I am accompanied during tasks and I also benefit from autonomy to carry out projects. I have the opportunity to see how the industry works and therefore bring technical and concrete knowledge on subjects when I return to training.
What do you enjoy about your role?
I enjoy my job as an HSE apprentice because we implement measures to protect the health and safety of our colleagues. We participate in the continuous improvement of the quality of our products and the activities that surround them while reducing our environmental impact as much as possible to protect our planet.
What is your favourite thing about working at Coveris?
What I like most about my job is the fact that it enables employees to go home in good health, without any injuries. But before that, there are many risk and accident analyses to be carried out and technical and human resources to be put in place to create a safe workplace and avoid accidents. I like the analysis part as well as the implementation of actions to reach our goal.
What is your proudest moment working at Coveris?
My proudest moment has not yet arrived, it will be when I graduate. But before that, there are many things at Coveris that make me proud. The moment I enjoy the most is at the end of a project when I have to do the testing and get feedback from the employees. It's the outcome of many days of work!
Reilly McKenzie
First up, here’s Reilly McKenzie, Apprentice Engineer at Coveris Cramlington. Reilly explains why he chose an apprenticeship and his proudest moment at Coveris so far, plus we hear from Reilly’s mentor Nyall Simpson.
“To give an apprentice the foundations of my knowledge and experience is an absolute pleasure. Reilly is an asset to the department, his attitude and drive to learn is second to none. I can see real potential him as an engineer”
Nyall Simpon, Site Lead Engineer
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
The idea of being in the working environment, earning while you learn and gaining valuable knowledge all at once was an opportunity I would be foolish not to take. Being an apprentice is great as you can watch and learn in many ways; working with different colleagues and contractors is beneficial for gaining knowledge that you will remember for the rest of your career.
What do you enjoy about your role?
In my role I enjoy being able to work alongside experience electrical and mechanical engineers on machines that have planned maintenance. This allows me to learn and understand more about components as there is more time to stop and talk through purposes and applications. As part of my role I have been going between the two Cramlington sites working with both electrical and mechanical engineers understanding various machines and different sides of engineering as a whole.
What is your favourite thing about working at Coveris?
Since starting at Coveris, I have met many interesting people and become part of a workforce that is diverse where everyone gets along and is very supportive. Since everyone is ‘canny’ (Cramlington is in North East England!) I have become more confident going and talking to more people and getting involved with different projects.
What is your proudest moment working at Coveris?
My proudest moment would be removing and then installing a printing press at the Cramlington Admiral site and watching it produce goods efficiently when it was finally all done.
